What is an oxymel?

An oxymel is an ancient remedy consisting of vinegar and honey, notably prescribed by Hippocrates for many ailments, and used as a tonic cure-all. The term oxymel was quite literal back in those days, “oxy” meaning acid and “mel” meaning honey. Over time this tonic base also became a medium for preserving and extracting many herbal properties. As an added bonus, a lot of these herbs taste good! The sweet, tangy honey-vinegar base serves as an excellent guide for many flavor combinations, most commonly (and loved by us) floral and earthy ones.

Raw apple cider vinegar on its own is a powerful health aid for our bodies and it also works magic in its ability to extract minerals from herbs. Mix it all with raw honey--who has its own list of reasons to love it--and you get a nutrient dense, immune boosting, digestive balancing, delicious, feel-good something to sip on.
